Are you yearning for an adventure that combines adrenaline, natural beauty, and a touch of Arctic history? Dogsledding in Tromsø offers an unparalleled experience that captivates both residents and visitors alike. Our Self-Drive Dog Sledding tour invites you to take the reins, guiding your own team of enthusiastic sled dogs through the breathtaking Arctic landscape.
The Time-Honored Tradition of Dogsledding
Dogsledding is deeply rooted in the culture and history of the Arctic regions. Once a vital means of transportation, today it offers a unique way to connect with the environment and the sturdy breeds that make this activity possible. As a musher, you'll stand at the rear of the sled, steering a team of robust dogs like Alaskan Malamutes and Siberian Huskies – breeds celebrated for their stamina, intelligence, and thick, insulating coats.
Your Journey Begins: What to Anticipate
Upon your arrival for the Self-Drive Dog Sledding tour, our esteemed partner, Tromsø Villmarkssenter, will equip you with thermal overalls to ensure your comfort in the chilly Arctic air. Our seasoned guides will then offer a comprehensive introduction to sled handling and dog care, setting you up for a successful adventure.
The Thrill of the Ride
You and a companion will share the exhilaration of guiding your own sled, swapping positions midway through the journey to ensure both of you experience the thrill of being a musher. Covering a distance of approximately four kilometers, you'll have the opportunity to interact with around 300 of our furry, four-legged team members.
Each sled is powered by a team of 5-7 dogs, and our expert guides will lead the way on a separate sled to ensure a smooth and safe experience. Following your adventure, you'll be treated to a traditional meal of Bidos – a hearty stew made from reindeer meat, broth, and vegetables. Vegetarian options are also available upon request.
